Types of Tile

These popular flooring applications are moisture resistant and easy to maintain, making them ideal for family rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens, where moisture and traffic are expected. We carry quality brands like Floridatile, Daltile, and more. From contemporary to rustic styles with a broad range of shade and texture variations, Messner will help you find the tile that's right for you!

The type of tile you choose for your flooring depends the look that appeals to you, and the environment in the particular space. Tile flooring offers durability and endless creative expression.

Ceramic Tile— Ceramic tile is made from various types of natural clay, which is processed into a mold and dried in a kiln.

Porcelain Tile— Like ceramic tile, porcelain tile is made from natural materials and fired in a kiln, but porcelain tile contains a large amount of feldspar which becomes glass-like during the firing process.

Glazed Tile— Ceramic and porcelain tile can be glazed or unglazed. Glazing is the process of coating the tile in a finish and firing the tile a second time to harden the glaze. Glazes can be glossy or matte, and because tile is porous, glazing can add a layer of protection from scratching or staining.

Natural Stone Tile—Natural stone tile is cut from large blocks of quarried stone. Common stones used for flooring include slate, marble, granite, and limestone (travertine). Stone tile comes in three finishes: a natural finish is rough-surfaced and has all the character of the cut stone; a honed finish is sanded smooth but is still matte and coarse to the touch; a polished finish is glassy, highlights the full color and pattern in the stone, but makes for a very slippery surface.

This popular flooring application is moisture resistant and easy to maintain, making tile ideal for family rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens, where moisture and traffic are expected.
