Carpet Fibers

Messner carries the newest, the softest, the most durable, and even the most sustainable carpeting in Western New York.

Wool: Beautiful, durable, luxurious wool is the premier carpet material, and can range from mid- to high-end in price. Wool is naturally stain-resistant but susceptible to moisture damage. Many synthetics are coming close to the desirable properties of wool.

Nylon: Nylon is the most durable of the synthetic fibers. Nylon resists stains and wear, and many nylon products are easier to keep clean. Nylon is a good choice for high-traffic areas.

Polyester: Polyester comes in a terrific variety of colors, and is fade, stain (except oils), and water-resistant. Many “green” carpets are in the polyester family. Polyester can pill and shed in high traffic areas, but is still a good choice for lower traffic areas such as bedrooms.

Olefin: Olefin is color-fast, and resists stains (except oils) and moisture. Olefin is less durable than other synthetics, and frequently less expensive. Olefin is a good choice for areas where pets, wet feet, and spills are the norm.

STAINMASTER:

A common perception is that Stainmaster® is a treatment, similar to Scotch Guard® but Stainmaster is actually a fiber! The fiber used in Stainmaster carpets actually repels stains, resists crushing, and doesn’t pill or shed.

CARPET: Density, Twist and Tuft

Sink your fingers into a carpet. The qualities that set a long-lasting carpet from a disappointment revolve around how tightly twisted the fibers are, and how densely woven the tufts are into the carpet backing. The tighter the twist and denser the stitching, the better the carpet. Let us show you samples of various carpets, and help you choose the grade of carpet and price point that work for you.
